Carmen Peña Lopez, PharmD, FFIP; President of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).


Dr Carmen Peña is the President of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), the global organisation gathering 139 national associations of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists. Prior to her election as FIP President, Dr Peña served as an FIP Vice-President for six years (2008-2014).
Since 1982, Dr Peña has been a community pharmacist in Spain. She has been actively involved in the Spanish professional body throughout her professional life.From 1997 to 2009, she was the Secretary General of the General Spanish Council of Pharmacists, before being elected as the Council’s President, a position she held from 2009 to 2015.
Dr Peña has been a member of the National Royal Academy of Pharmacy (since 2005) and a corresponding member of the Latin-American Academy of Pharmacy (since 2005).
Dr Peña graduated and obtained herdoctorate from the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, and holds a masters in high management in health institutions from the IESE Business School, Navarra University, Spain.
Dr Peña has received numerous accolades from professional organisations in Spain (such as the Gold Medal of the General Spanish Council of Pharmacists in 2015 and aComenda Do Mérito Farmacêutico from Brazil in 2010) and at international level (e.g. FIP Fellow in 2013 and Homage of the South American Pharmaceutical Federation in 2010), as well as from the Spanish authorities (Gran Cruz de la Orden Civil de Sanidad in 2015).
She has also been recognised by the media in Spain as “Pharmacist of the Year” (2015) and “Personality of the Year for the Pharmaceutical Sector” (2006).
