Born in Zimbabwe, Mike Rouse worked in hospital and community pharmacy and was chief executive of Zimbabwe’s largest group of pharmacies before moving to the USA in 2001. He works at the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education where he is Assistant Executive Director, Professional Affairs, and Director, International Services. He coordinated the 2007 revision of ACPE’s PharmD Standards. Mike has published on education and training of pharmacy technicians, continuing professional development (CPD), contemporary pharmacy practice, advancing pharmacy education globally, quality assurance of pharmacy education, and credentialing in pharmacy. He is a global leader in advancing the CPD model for pharmacist’s lifelong learning. His publications and work on this subject are widely cited. Mike co-authored a major work describing the scope of practice of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in the USA.
Mike established the International Forum for Quality Assurance of Pharmacy Education and led the development of FIP’s Global Framework for Quality Assurance of Pharmacy Education (2008, 2014). He is Lead for Quality Assurance in the Education Development Team of FIP’s Education Initiative (FIPEd) and served as Co-Lead for Continuing Education/Continuing Professional Development.
Mike is a past-president of the Pharmaceutical Society and the National Pharmaceutical Council of Zimbabwe. For over 30 years he has been active in FIP, serving on the Board of Directors, Board of Pharmaceutical Practice, Board of the FIP Foundation for Education and Research, and Executive Committees of the Community and Academic Sections.
