Welcome address to the 7th Pharmaceutical Care Conference

Based on the sound success of previous pharmaceutical care Conferences the 7th conference expects to attract over 800 delegates devoted to evolving pharmacy practice and in particular medication safety best practices. The conference will be a ground for interaction for healthcare professionals, including, but not limited to; pharmacists, medical and nursing staff, hospital management, healthcare quality professionals and pharmacy education. Pharmacists are highly trusted professionals and they should be readily accessible to patients as health care providers.

Our theme for this year ‘s gathering is “Towards Excellence in pharmacy Practice” as it focuses on the key issues of sustainable development of pharmacy practice throughout the region, I hope this premise will inspire all of us to sharpen our vision and achieve the targeted goals. And as stated by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), “there has been an effort to change from a sickness care model to a health model”.

Professional excellence in pharmacy practice requires pharmacists to take responsibility and accountability for patients’ health outcomes. To achieve this level of professional excellence, pharmacists must exhibit the attributes of a patient-centered practitioner.  Fundamental to these attributes are the abilities to provide competent, compassionate and ethical care for patients that include the ability to interpret and apply scientific evidence to individual patients, generate evidence when it does not exist nor needs improvement, fully engage in team-based patient care and maintain expertise through advanced training or professional development. The education of students and training of practitioners lays key foundations for achieving professional excellence that meets societal needs.

Our commitment to being professionally excellent, keeping up-to-date and continuously seeking improvement is the key of optimizing a professional’s career opportunities and development. Continuing professional development program & activities are the way to improving professional competence and sustaining it, for health personnel to maintain their professional integrity and remain safe practitioners, they need to be intellectually alerts, have appropriate knowledge base as well as being accomplished in the necessary coping mechanisms, and capable of translating science into practice to close the gap between evidence and practice and improve our performance for the benefit of our patients

The 7th pharmaceutical care Conference is supported by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), Institute of Safe Medications Practices (ISMP), and the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP). And it will be accredited by American Accreditation Counsel for Pharmacy Education (ACCPE) for pharmacists and doctors, and by Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) This year, a Panel Discussion on antimicrobial stewardship program will be conducted by a group of worldwide experts in pharmaceutical care and pharmacy practice leaders, which will be adding an exceptional value to the conference scientific program, in order to explore the future of pharmacy practices and the range of professional services offered by pharmacists.

I would like to thank you for your commitment, for seeking excellence in your practice, and your interest in attending these valuable topics. I am confident that you all will enjoy the admirable theme and leave the conference with deepen knowledge that you will be able apply at your own practice.
