Biography
Dr Jimmy Jose is presently working as Associate Professor in Pharmacy Practice/Clinical Pharmacy in School of Pharmacy at the University of Nizwa (UoN), Sultanate of Oman. He additionally held the position as Assistant Dean for Research at the College of Pharmacy and Nursing. His previous major academic appointments include in International Medical University (IMU), Malaysia and Manipal University, India. Dr Jose was awarded his PhD in the year 2008 from Manipal University, India and the field of research as Pharmacovigilance. He is presently undertaking a Postgraduate Professional Development course in Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London. He had the opportunity to receive training in clinical pharmacy at Michigan hospitals, University of Michigan, USA as part of the Pharma bridge program of International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).His academic teaching experience includes in postgraduate and undergraduate level; MPharm, PharmD, M Pharm program (twinning program at IMU with University of Strathclyde, UK) and BPharm in Oman, Malaysia, and India. He had the opportunity for bedside teaching as part of mentoring postgraduate and undergraduate students during their clinical attachments in India and Malaysia. He was invited to be an external examiner for doctoral and master level thesis within and outside Oman. Clinical experience includes part-time clinical pharmacy services in the Department of Medicine in Nizwa Hospital, Ministry of Health (MoH), Oman and Department of Medicine, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. His non-academic experience includes in Medical Writing and Health Care Communication as Deputy Manager, MediMedia Health, Bangalore and as Production Executive, Strides Arcolab Limited, Bangalore.
His primary field of research is hospital-based pharmacovigilance. Additionally, he has done research work in the field of patient medication adherence and KAP of public in drug use related aspects. He was successful in obtaining research funds from the Research Council (Oman) and UoN along with a multidisciplinary team. He has received travel grants from the international organizations as the International Society of Pharmacovigilance and International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology. During his research career, close to 40 articles are published in peer reviewed journals and the publications have received more than 900 citations (October 2019). He serves as an Associate Editor for the journal Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety, as an Editorial/Advisory Board Member for the journals International Journal of Pharmacy Practice, European Journal of Hospital Pharmacy, Drug Safety Case Reports, Drugs and Therapeutics Perspective and Therapeutic Advances in Drug Safety.
He has rendered services to pharmacy and other health care professional community in Oman including association with the Pharmacovigilance Department at the MoH in conducting pharmacovigilance workshops, as well as educational presentations at various other conferences and workshops. He serves as a member of the Patient Safety Curriculum Committee as well as Regional Research and Ethics Committee of the MoH, Oman.
